Our History |
We started FDGA in December of 2013 after many local players decided to take over league nights and tournaments that the members of the Lawrenceburg Disc Golf Association started.
Our first tournament was the 2014 Glo Thro held at East Frankfort Park in November. Since then, we have seen the sport grow in ways that we could not have imagined. We have since held four or more tournaments per year. In 2015 we added six new holes to EFP to make it a 24 hole course. The Frankfort Parks Recreation and Historic Sites have been very instrumental in the growth of the sport by supporting us in every thing we have needed to do. In 2018, we opened a new course, Lakeview Park DGC. This course is a great compliment to the shorter, tight fairways of EFP. It was first designed in the fall of 2015. Since then, we have worked with the County Parks Department to help install and maintain the course. It is an 18 hole course with over 7000 feet of distance, using Prodigy baskets and Concrete TeePads. In 2020, we became a 501c3, non-profit corporation. With this new tax exempt status, we will now be able to solicit sponsorships and donations from citizens and companies to further our goals. In 2020, we became a 501c3, non-profit corporation. With this new tax exempt status, we will now be able to solicit sponsorships and donations from citizens and companies to further our goals. In November of 2021, we proposed plans for a new disc golf course to West Sixth Farm and soon after received most of the funding needed to install it. West Sixth Farm DGC was designed and built beginning in December 2021 by Frankfort Disc Golf Association members. We opened the course in May 2022 and are continuing to make improvements weekly. We’ve now logged over 900 hours on site doing maintenance and construction. |
