Our History |
FDGA began its mission in December of 2013 after many local players decided to take over the league nights and tournaments that members of the Lawrenceburg Disc Golf Association had begun.
Our first tournament was the 2014 Glo Thro held at East Frankfort Park. Since then, we have seen the sport grow in ways that we could not have imagined. We began with up to four tournaments per year and as of 2023, we hold 6 PDGA Sanctioned events (including an A-Tier) and 4-5 Unsanctioned tournaments as well. We run a handicapped league lasting 32 weeks each year and Sunday doubles nearly all year long. In 2015 we added six new holes to East Frankfort Park to make it a 24 hole course. In 2018, we opened Lakeview Park Disc Golf Course which compliments the shorter, tighter fairways of EFP. It was first designed in the fall of 2015 and has 18 holes with over 7000 feet of distance. In November of 2021, we proposed a collaboration with West Sixth Farm and soon after received partial funding to install an 18 hole disc golf course on their 120 acre property. West Sixth Farm DGC was designed and then built beginning in December 2021 by Frankfort Disc Golf Association members and opened in May of 2022. In 2020, we became a 501c3, non-profit corporation. With this new tax exempt status, we have been able to solicit dozens of sponsorships and donations from citizens and private companies to continue our mission of growth. That said, we’d like to thank Frankfort Parks and Recreation and the Franklin County Fiscal Board for all of their support and for giving us the space to make Frankfort a popular, disc golf destination that attracts over 1000 disc golfers each year. Future plans: We look forward to continuing our relationship with the City of Frankfort so that we can someday fulfill the Capitol View Master Plan. We also look forward to collaborating with the County Fiscal Board in the hopes of seeing the acreage at Ducker’s become a one of a kind, multipurpose public venue that includes a true, Championship level disc golf course on the South East corner. |
